Dialog Introduces nA level Current PMIC Series for Low-Power IoT Applications

Recently, Dialog Semiconductor Corporation (German Stock Exchange: DLG) announced the launch of the fully integrated nA level Current PMIC Series of products_the DA9070 and DA9073,they are design for the Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

This latest and powerful PMIC series of product is based on the success of Dialog's first-generation nA level current PMIC series, which shows that Dialog has broken its PMIC technology limit once again, improving the performance of low-power IoT applications significantly.

Most of IoT devices , such as health trackers, smart watches and smart home products, be required to spend as little time as possible on charging, but more and more features pose new challenges to the battery life of the device.

The circuit board space is invaluable to engineers, so it is necessary to propose a new power management solution.

Dialog's new nA level currents PMIC_DA9070 and DA9073 are designed to meet this need. The PMIC series of product extends battery life, which providing less than 1uA of quiescent current to each buck regulator, that components that are always on in the system. Combining with key power management features, the board area is 25% smaller than that of discrete devices. Developers can also create battery fuel gauge solutions using the integrated voltage and current monitors in the DA9070.

Other solutions may integrate several features in the market, and Dialog's new nA evel quiescent current PMIC provides engineers with an all-in-one power management solution. These PMICs not only extend the battery life of IoT devices, but also save developers valuable board space.

Udo Kratz, senior vice president and general manager of the mobile systems business unit at Dialog Semiconductor, said: "As the needs of consumers continue to rise, system design engineers face a series of complex challenges, on the one hand, they need to further extend battery life, on the other hand , they need to add new feature combinations and even meet the requirements of small sizes.

Dialog's first fully integrated nA-level quiescent current PMIC series of product based on our power management and IoT connectivity expertise, which provide engineers with a compact and powerful solution to help solve these challenges, at the same time, the solution reduces the overall size of the system for wearables and other IoT devices.”

Overview of DA9073

DA9073 is a highly integrated, configurable, low quiescent current PMIC that integrates the most common needs for wearables, home automation and low power battery applications.

The Power Management IC (PMIC) comprises a linear charger with Power Path management, ultralow quiescent current (Iq) buck regulator and LDO/Load Switches, wide output voltage boost regulator, watchdog and protection features in an I2C configurable compact WLCSP package. DA9073 has several power saving modes to increase battery life whether the product sits on the shelf or is in operation. Further savings in power are achieved with the ultra-low Iq buck converter that is efficient down to 10 μA load currents and low Iq LDOs. The uncommitted inputs of LDOs can be connected to either the battery or buck output. The integrated, high-efficiency boost regulator supports both sensors and display supply needs with a wide range configurable output voltage.

DA9073 provides charge current up to 500 mA to speed up the charge cycle. The charge profile is programmable by external resistors or in software, allowing either stand-alone operation or host control.DA9073 includes dynamic power path management which automatically balances current delivered between the system and the battery.
